REMINDER - MILDER WEATHER MEANS LAKES AND STREAMS ARE NOT SAFE
Over this past weekend, members of the York Regional Police Marine Unit responded to four separate emergency calls to assist snowmobile operators, their passengers and drivers who were injured or damaged their property because they did not heed warnings that the ice on Lake Simcoe is no longer safe.

On three occasions, snowmobile operators failed to identify the hazards of pressure cracks in the ice and struck these uneven dangerous hazards. This resulted in a total of four people being slightly injured. In one of hese incidents a male operating his snowmobile lost control, resulting in injuries to his passenger. The male operator was not injured however, the passenger was transported to hospital. After investigation, the driver was charged with Impaired-related offences.
