PowerStream employees help charity in a ‘BIG’ way
More than $11,000 in funds raised for the Heart and Stroke Foundation

YORK REGION, ON – It could be said that big things were happening in York Region last week with staff from PowerStream, the region’s biggest local utility, raising big money for a big cause.

Fifty-eight of the utility’s employees took a ride on the Heart and Stroke undation’s ‘Big Bike’ and successfully raised $11,786.00 for the charity, exceeding the company’s initial fundraising target of $6,000. This was the highest amount of funds raised in York Region South by a first-time corporate participant in this annual Heart and Stroke Foundation fundraising activity.

The Big Bike event featured employee teams from PowerStream and other participating corporations peddling a monster 30-seater bike, along Highway 7 and Jane Street in Vaughan. The Big Bike travels through more than 200 communities in Canada each year.

PowerStream entered two employee teams that competed against each other in the event in order to maximize the company’s total fundraising efforts.

“We are extremely pleased with the amount of support PowerStream employees have shown for the Heart and Stroke Foundation,” said Brian Bentz, President and CEO of PowerStream. “The Big Bike was a great eent and we looking forward to next year to help raise more funds for this worthy cause.”

The Heart and Stroke Foundation is a volunteer-based health charity, aiming to eliminate heart disease and stroke, through research, promotion of healthy living, and advocacy. In Canada, someone dies from heart disease or stroke every 7 minutes. Recent research indicates that cardiovascular disease accounts for the death of more Canadians than any other disease.
