York Regional Police is proud to participate in the 2008 Provincial Fall Seatbelt Campaign.
In addition to our year-round seatbelt checks, an enhanced seatbelt campaign will take place from Wednesday, October 1, 2008, through to Sunday, October 12, 2008, where members of York Regional Police will be performing seatbelt spot checks at various locations throughout York Region.
The objective of the 2008 Fall Seatbelt Campaign is to encourage the citizens of York Region to achieve 100 per cent seatbelt compliance. In addition to driver and passenger seat belts, the campaign will also emphasize the need for children to be secured appropriately in a car seat or a booster seat.
This year in York Region, five people have died in collisions where improper or non-use of a seatbelt was a contributing factor. Since 2002, 29 people have died in similar circumstances.
Failure to properly wear a seatbelt can result in a fine of $110 and two demerit points or worse, serious injury or death.
York Regional Police reminds everyone to wear your seatbelt properly at all times and encourage your passengers to wear their seatbelts as well. Drivers are reminded that they are responsible for all passengers in their vehicle who are under 16 years.
Traffic safety is everyone’s responsibility.
