Twenty-five years ago Markham was a new and emerging community of 100,000 residents who were building a reputation for rich culture, heritage and opportunity. At that same time, bricks, mortar and dreams came to life in the form of our new Markham Theatre. The legacy of those dreams stands before us today as does a community that is even more vibrant, culturally rich and diverse.
Markham Theatre is a reflection of twenty-five years of tremendous contributions from our community, our theatre founding groups, past and present Councils, volunteers and board members. We are deeply indebted to them for bringing the Markham Theatre to life and establishing it as a cultural and artistic cornerstone of the community.
In 25 years, over 3 million people have gathered here to enrich their lives and revel in the magic that is created on stage every night. Over a half-million school students, and local singers, dancers, actors and musicians have called Markham Theatre home.
Markham Theatre is now one of Canada's premier theatre houses serving the GTA and 300,000 Markham residents. The theatre's success is a testament to the inclusivity of our community the depth of artistic talent that has chosen Markham to be home, and the artists that grace our stage.
