Don’t miss March Break at The Varley Art Gallery, March 10 - 14, 2008

Spring is around the corner, and it is time to get your creative juices flowing. Join us for a week of creativity, fun and exploration. All classes are held at the Varley Art Gallery.

Half-Day Sessions for Age 4-6:
Register for a 3-hour hands-on studio program and take your art creations home. Morning programs run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and afternoon programs run from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Cost per program:
$26.00 for non-members
$23.40 for members
$28.00 for non-residents

Program Schedule:
Sculpture Factory- Mon. Mar. 10 Barcodes: AM 135148 or PM 1135159
Work in 3D! Design and create sculpture in plastecine, clay and a variety of other everyday materials. Learn techniques of relief and additive sculpture, and build to your hearts content!

Fabulous Portraits & Frames- Tues. Mar. 11 Barcodes: AM 135149 or PM 135160
Learn how to draw and paint fun portraits of yourself and others! Create a fun artsy frame out of cereal box decorated with various fun materials such as buttons, feathers, and beads and sculpt your own wire photo holder.

Ready, Set, Paint! - Wed. Mar. 12 Barcodes: AM 135150 or PM 135161
Explore the fundamentals of colour and design, examining various painting techniques and mediums. Students will work in watercolour, acrylic and tempera paints, studying different styles of painting from traditional to more modern forms.

Bugs in My Picture! - Thur. Mar. 13 Barcodes: AM 135151 or PM 135162
Work in a variety of mixed media in illustration. Design pictures and your own Discover the wonderworld of creepy creatures! Create two dimensional representations of your favorite bugs, looking at the storybooks of Barbara Reid illustrated with plasticine! All materials included.

The Animal Kingdom comes alive at the gallery this March Break! Kids will love creating artwork from their rich imagination using colour and texture. Explore collage, sculpture and painting and create your own furry and feathered friends!

Sculpture Studio - Mon. Mar. 10 Barcode: 135143
Dress for mess and have fun working with clay and other materials to create your own 3-D objects and sculptural masterpieces. Learn different techniques for creating forms, including coil, pinch and modelling methods. Explore surface design and various decoration styles.

Artsy Musical Instruments- Tues. Mar. 11 Barcode: 135144
It's time to make some noise! Children love music as much as they enjoy making things. so why not join these two creative forces. Kids will make their very chimes, tambourines, and drums and perform a mini concert at the end of the day.

Arts Around the World - Wed. Mar. 12 Barcode: 135145
Imagine a journey to the tribal villages of Africa, to the printmaking capital of ancient Japan and to the Bohemian lifestyles of Parisian artists. An introduction to the history and techniques of art from the four corners of the world awaits.

Doodling, Drawing & Design - Thur. Mar. 13 Barcode: 135146
Drawing and designing are important aspects of creativity, and kids are encouraged to let their imagination run wild! Projects include perspective drawing exercises, optical art and a doodling composition where the entire art piece is created with one continuous line!

Artsy Shoes - Fri. Mar. 14 Barcode: 135147
What kind of artist are you? Personalize your own pair of canvas shoes inspired by our fantastic exhibition " I Dreamed I was in Picasso's Shoes" at the gallery till May 4. Use a variety of media to create your own fancy footwear to show off around town! Sure to be a big hit so sign up early! All materials provided including canvas shoes!
