From May 28 through to May 30, 2008, members of the York Regional Police Traffic Bureau and members of the Community Oriented Response Units from Districts #1, 2, 4 and 5 will be joined by north-end traffic officers from the Toronto Police Service for Operation Safe Commute. This initiative will target aggressive drivers on highly-travelled commuter routes in both jurisdictions.
Officers from both organizations will deploy to the following areas: Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at Leslie Street/Don Mills Road from Davis Drive to Eglinton Avenue East Thursday, May 29, 2008, at Yonge Street from Green Lane to Lawrence Avenue Friday, May 30, 2008, at Weston Road from Highway 9 to Lawrence Avenue West
Officers will be enforcing aggressive driving, speeding, failure to wear seatbelts, disobeying traffic signal lights and all pedestrian offences in an attempt to encourage people to drive, and walk, in a safe and legal manner.
Pedestrians are encouraged to use crosswalks and remain vigilant and be aware of the dangers that motor vehicles pose to their safety.
Drivers are reminded to operate their vehicles in a safe and courteous manner, obey the speed limit, signal, make safe lane changes, adjust for weather conditions and always wear their seatbelts.
Traffic safety is everyone’s responsibility. For further information, contact Staff Sergeant Chris Bullen or Sergeant Brad Bulmer at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7703. |
