YORK REGION, ONT. – On March 28, The Alzheimer Society of York Region invites you to participate in its 12th Annual Awareness Breakfast with guest speaker, Bart Mindszenthy. Starting at 9:00 a.m. and running until 11:00 a.m, Mindszenthy will share 10 important coping strategies for families dealing with the incredible pressures and challenges of Alzheimer’s.

Mindszenthy, co-author of the national best seller Parenting Your Parents: Support Strategies for Meeting the Challenge of Aging in the Family, has addressed audiences across the country about the hardships of Alzheimer’s disease. Appearing on radio and television talk shows, as well as national television specials, Mindszenthy has spread awareness about Alzheimer’s disease by explaining how living with the disease not only affects the carriers, but everyone around them.

As an only child, Mindszenthy has spent the past 12 years coping with his parents’ illnesses. His father, who suffered from macular degeneration, died in May 2004 at the age of 98. Now for the past four years, he has been caring for his mother who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. When writing Parenting Your Parents, Mindszenthy not only used his personal knowledge and experiences, but also used his professional knowledge of crisis management to explain how preparing for a crisis like Alzheimer’s disease will help Boomers and their parents to plan and understand the current and future challenges the disease will bring.

The 12th Annual Alzheimer Awareness Breakfast will take place at the Oakview Terrace; at 13256 Leslie Street in Richmond Hill, on March 28, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Tickets are $25 each. To order tickets or for further information, please call: 905-895-1337 or 1-888-414-5550.
