The Markham Teen Arts Council is pleased to announce the Music & Lyrics Contest, an event dedicated to talented and aspiring singers and songwriters. Markham high school students age 14 to 18 will audition and perform a self composed song in front of a panel of professional judges. Each song should be approximately three to five minutes in length and every participant is required to submit their lyrics on the day of the audition. This is an acoustic audition only and there is a maximum of four people allowed in each group. More details are available on the MTAC web site. www.markhamteenarts.com
The top three finalists will win the opportunity to record their original song with the Ovation Performing Arts Academy. Furthermore, the three finalists will also be given an opportunity to perform at Milne Park’s annual Canada Day Celebration. In addition, all contestants will be featured at Main Street Markham’s Pedestrian Day on Sunday, July 19, 2009.
Auditions: Sunday, May 24 from 6:00 – 9:00 pm at the McKay Art Centre, 197 Main St., Unionville
For those of you who are eager to learn more about the art of songwriting, Ovation! has a 6-week songwriting program available to help aspiring musicians develop the skills necessary for professional songwriting.
